Chapter 1 -Two Friends
James Carder walked home from the movie theater with his best friend, Lewis Lenbe. James was a tall, athletic boy of fourteen, but Lewis was a shy boy of thirteen.
James asked, “Hey, could you ask your mom if you could sleep over tonight?”
“That’s great idea,” answered Lewis.
They ran over to James’s house. Lewis called his mom to ask if he could sleep over at James’s house.
Lewis’s mother said, “Of course, as long as you’re asleep by nine!”
Lewis answered, “Yes ma’am, love you. I will be by the house in ten.”
“Love you, too. Asleep by nine, home by four,” he whispered.
Lewis hung up and asked James, “What did your mom say?”
“Yes,” James answered excitedly.
“That’s great! I’m going to run to my house and get my stuff.”
“Sounds good,” said James.
Chapter 2 - Big Plans
Lewis ran home and grabbed his stuff. He bumped into his cousin, Jared, who was fifteen and tall for his age. He was staying there for two weeks. Lewis and Jared had never gotten along at all. Jared yelled at him and Lewis acted like he didn’t notice.
James ran into his bedroom and straightened up. James’s room had a place to get up into the attic. Of course, he never went up there, but he had thought about making it his secret hideout to read and hide his stuff.
When Lewis got back, James and Lewis unfolded the couch to make a bed for Lewis. James went down stairs to the laundry room to get the spare sheets to put on the couch.
James’s older sister was also having a sleepover. Suddenly, Jame had a good idea. “Lewis, we could prank my sister and hare friend. We can use the attic. She has turned her side of the attic into a hideout because she also has an opening to her room.”
“Sounds fun,” commented Lewis. But how are we going to prank them?
“Well, we could… I have some of my eight year old toys. There are some rubber and plastic frogs, snakes, spiders and rats.”
“Boys, girls, let’s eat!” mother called.
Chapter 3 - Snakes, Spiders, and Rats
After supper Lewis and James headed downstairs towards the basement to look through two boxes to see if they could find the box of toys.
Lewis said, “I’ll look over here. You look over there.”
They started and then James said, “I found it!”
They carried it up two flights of stairs into James’s room. Lewis pulled down the ladder to the attic and climbed up. James started clamoring up the ladder. Then Lewis bent down and grabbed the boy from James. They set it in the center of the attic. They climbed back down to put their night shirts on. “Bang! Bang!” They heard a noise from the attic.
Louis asked, “Did you hear that?”
“Let’s go check it out,” suggested Lewis.
“Okay, while we’re at it, we can check on Jan and Valerie.”
Chapter 4 - Clock
“Come on,” Lewis said while pulling down the ladder.
James and Louis climbed up. They look around to find an old grandfather clock in the middle of the attic.
“Was this here earlier?” asked Lewis.
“I don’t think so. It looks like it flipped over the box. Ahh… I know where this clock came from. It was in the corner. The previous owners of the house left it here and the odd thing is that it has no gears inside.”
Let’s open it,” said Lewis.
They walked over and try to set it up, but it was too heavy.
Lewis commented, “I thought you said there were no gears in it.”
James shrugged his shoulders. They rolled it over and try to open it, but it was locked.
Lewis asked, “Where is the key?”
James looked around and saw the key on the floor by his foot. He picked it up and opened up the clock. There was a short boy of fourteen inside the clock, bound and gagged.
Chapter 5 - Benny
All of a sudden, James looked like he was going to faint. Lewis quickly untied and ungagged the boy. Quickly in a British accent the boy said, My name is Benny. No time to explain. Where is the closest telephone booth?”
“What are you talking about?” asked Louis.
“Oh, dear, I’m in America, aren’t I?” asked Benny.
“Yes. Where else would you be?”
“ London. I was snuggled here by the Douglas group.”
“Who are you and what in the world are you doing in my house?”, asked James after he recovered.
“I’m Benny, but we don’t have much time. I work for a secret organization of teens. What is your name?”
“James Carder,” James replied and gave him an odd stare.
“I know your sister. She is a part of the organization. Jen Carder, right?”
“So, my sister knows about this?” asked James.
“Yes, may I use your telephone?”
“I guess so. It’s downstairs in the kitchen.”
Chapter 6 - WWSOOT
Lewis, James, and Benny walked quietly down the stairs, because at that time it was ten and they were supposed to be upstairs. They stepped into the kitchen. Benny picked up the phone and dialed. A voice said, “Sorry, your call cannot be completed.”
Lewis said, “Maybe the landline can’t reach that far.”
James said, “I think my sister’s phone can.”
They walked up the stairs and went in James’s room. Lewis pulled down the ladder and said, “Maybe you should stay here.”
“Okay,” said James.
James and Lewis climbed up. They climbed down Jen's ladder and grabbed her phone. They climbed back up the ladder. They got back to James’s room and gave the p’shone to Benny. Benny started to dial.
Someone on the other end picked up and said in a British accent, “Hello, this is the Worldwide SOOT and this is Emil. How can I help you?”
Chapter 7 - WWSSFTFC
“Yes, this is Benny. I need a helicopter in America - Washington DC at the Abraham Lincoln Memorial.”
“Sure thing, Boss,” replied Emil.
“Oh, and tell the boss that I may have some new recruits here for him.”
Benny hung up. “New recruit?! New recruits?! We don’t even know what kind of organization it is!” exclaimed Lewis.
Benny answered, “Well, WWSOOT stands for World Wide Secret Organization of Teens and this summer you two will be going to WWSSFTFC or SSFC, School for Teens Fighting Crime.”
“So we will be fighting crime?” asked James.
“Sounds fun,” said James sarcastically.
“Yes, it is very fun.”
“I was being sarcastic.”
“I know,” said Benny.
“Call your friend back and tell him that you won’t need that helicopter until next week,” said Lewis.
“We are almost done with school, so you can go to school tomorrow. James will introduce you to his mom. Of course, he won’t tell her who you really are.”
“Okay, and while I am here, I can get some more new recruits,” said Benny.
“Sounds good. It will be fun, but what about you, James?”
“What do you think that I would do? Just let my best friend become a spy without me?” asked James.
"Where is he?", muttered Miss Little.
One of her mouselings ran up to her and asked, "Where's Papa? The boys are jumping on the bed again."
"He will be home soon, don't worry. BOYS!"
The boys ran under the bed quickly to avoid their mother's hateful glare. She pulled each of the four boys out from under the bed by their tails, and said, "I have a job for you. Your naughty father is going to be late to supper, if he doesn't get his tail over here soon. So who wants to go get him?"
Three of the boys ran out the bedroom door closing it on the fourth. She said, "Great for volunteering."
"Okay." He grabbed his jacket and ran outside. She went out of the room and went upstairs. Then saw the bathroom door open a little bit. She opened the door and an acorn of water fell on her head. The boys ran out with another acorn of water. They ran down the hall to their older sister's room. She was still sleeping. So they poured out the acorn of water onto her.
She screamed and ran out of the room to chase them. Mother said, "I guess she can handle them."
She went downstairs. The boy she sent to go find their father came in and said, "I could not find father, but I talked to his boss. He said father got off work early about an hour ago."
"This is not good." Mother rushed upstairs and told her oldest daughter, "Father is missing. You are in charge." Mother rushed down stairs and out the door. She ran to the W.H. Police Station. "We will get on it as soon as possible. Can you give us a description?", the police asked.
"Yes, he is about yea high and has on a blue suit," Miss Little said.
"A little more detail please, mam."
"Okay, long snout, shorter tail, white stripe from his tail to his snout, and he is light gray."
"Mam, does he look something like this?"
"Oh, yes, that's him!"
"What is this?", Miss Little asked.
"Oh, this is the person I think has your husband. He is Tommy Big-Claws. He is wanted for mousenapping. All we know is no mouse has come out of his lair alive."
"Wait, what did you say your last name is?"
"Hmm, last week he kidnapped another Little."
"That's a funny coincidence."
"What if it is not a coincidence? Do you have a family album?"
"Bring it tomorrow."
"Okay." Miss Little headed home. She got home and thought, "Hmm, I have not gotten the mail today."
She got a letter that said, "I am watching you. Big Tom".
Chills went down the back of her neck. She thought, "I will give it to the police tomorrow." She went into the house. The boys and her youngest girl were asleep. She crepped upstairs and went to bed but she could not get to sleep. Suddenly there was a crash. Miss Little jumped out of bed to see what was going on. It was a cat! It was trashing the place. It finally got a binder. It was the family album. Miss Little screamed and told the boys to run to the police station.
The boys told the police what happened. The police ran to their house. They successfully got the family album back but could not catch the cat. Miss Little said, "Here, this is a note that I got in the mail today."
"Thank you. Hmm, good thing that we sent officers after the cat."
The cat was unaware that there was anyone after him. He led them right to his lair and went inside. They heard the cat say, "Tell me what the Little's secret is now!"
"No, I'd rather die," a voice replied.
"That could be arranged."
Then the officers ran in and grabbed the cat's prisoner which was Mr. Little. They put handcuffs on the cat and dragged him out. Mr. Little ran to his house. Everyone was glad to see him!
